Nothing beats a fresh salad that you grow yourself!, April 25, 2009

I bought the romaine back in January and I’m back to order another. We are a family of 5 and this fed all of us as a dinner meal many, many times. Just grilled up some chicken, boiled some eggs and added the croutons. Plus putting several leaves on sandwiches and such.

I used to buy a bag of romaine at the store paying around $3 per bag a couple times per week. I must say, using the aerogarden 6-pod seed kit is a cost saver. The lettuce was crisp and tasted, well, like romaine.

My mother just came up from Florida, she didn’t know anything about these. One night, we had salads and she asked if she needed to wash off the leaves…nope. She then asked what needs to be done….Nothing! No worrying about pesticides or anything.

I placed my aerogarden 6-pod seed kit in our laundry room which is somewhat cooler in there than the rest of the house. My only complaint is I wish I could grow cherry tomatoes at the same time I’m growing my lettuce.

To order it, you must use Amazon’s used book merchants, which I’m doing now, because I liked the book so much. I consider the book a must-have, alongside my various Taylor’s Gardening guides.

I miss my garden during the winter and really enjoy seeing my indoor vegetable plants grow, bloom, and then develop fruit. The book provides solid information about the light, soil, water, etc requirements to insure a successful indoor winter crop and everything you should know on how to grow vegetables indoors.

This book is interesting to read, clear and well organized. The author doesn’t suggest one best way to do things, but instead gives you all the knowledge you could need to understand pros and cons of various methods and develop a system that fits your goals, budget, and life style.

I’ve read a lot on this subject and this book was the first to arm me with the understanding of how the plants work, how the available lights and equipment work, and how they do or don’t work together. In everything, this book is exactly what it says – how to grow vegetables indoors.

The Edible Indoor Garden: A Complete Guide to Growing over 60 Vegetables, Fruits, and Herbs Indoors is a treasure. It should be noted, though, that it’s not new and doesn’t include LED lights or the newest other equip, but that’s what I loved best about it, it didn’t prescribe amazing thousand dollar toys, instead it talked about affordable, attainable methods anyone can find and use. A truly recommendable book if you are looking for simple ways on how to grow vegetables indoors
